NATION IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Miami Erects Signs as Help to Tourists
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Miami began installing easy-to-understand street signs, carrying a picture of a palm tree and the word “beaches†to help tourists escape a crime wave that has hit out-of-towners. The signs are supposed to be easier to understand than the usual ones that bear route numbers and street names. A new tourist information booth--with information, maps and directions in five languages--was also opened just outside of customs at the international airport. Six foreign tourists have been killed in South Florida since December.
