The Red Ribbons

As evidenced by Judith Lazarus’ article “The AIDS Ribbons’ Tangled Message: Why Some See Red,” March 24), there might be a question about the purpose of the red ribbons.

For those people who have questions about my ribbon, I can simply reply, “I wear it to remind you that AIDS is still out there and that they haven’t yet found a cure.”

Additionally, I can tell them that out of 245,000 Americans who have tested HIV-positive, 172,000 have lost their lives to this epidemic. And, be you straight or gay, practice safe sex. Each time you see our ribbons, remember that we wear them for a purpose.
