COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Beats L.A. City in Tournament
Brandon Hoalton pitched a five-hitter as Rancho Santiago beat Los Angeles City, 3-2, in the first round of the Channel Coast Tournament Tuesday at Moorpark College.
Hoalton, a freshman from Garden Grove High, had nine strikeouts and walked one in improving to 7-0.
Derek Brown had an RBI double in the second for Rancho Santiago (20-5) but the Dons had to rally for two more runs in the seventh for the victory. Darren Troilo had a single and Jason Minici followed with a triple to tie it, 2-2. Brown followed with a groundout to give Rancho Santiago a 3-2 lead.

In the Saddleback softball tournament:
Pima (Ariz.) 4, Saddleback 0--Saddleback was eliminated from the tournament. Riverside then beat Pima, 5-0, to win the tournament.
Saddleback started the day in the winners’ bracket final but lost to Riverside, 2-1. Saddleback’s Shelly Byrd had three hits in the loss to Riverside. Saddleback (20-11) had only two hits in the loss to Pima.
