CASTAIC : Deputies Prevent Brawl at Jail
Deputies prevented a race-related brawl between about 400 black and Latino inmates at the county jail in Castaic, the Los Angles County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday.
The incident began about 8:50 p.m. Monday in a minimum-security ranch facility at the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho, Deputy Bill Wehner said.
“About 400 inmates divided along racial lines, black versus Hispanic, armed themselves with broken broom and mop handles,” and walked into a nearby courtyard, Wehner said. They “began yelling at each other. Within minutes, 40 to 50 deputies entered the compound. Just their presence and oral commands ended the fight,” he said.
There were no injuries.
