NEWBURY PARK : Toddler Drowns in Back-Yard Spa
An 18-month-old Newbury Park boy died Monday after his mother, who had been sewing on the second floor of their Dickenson Avenue home, found him floating in a back-yard spa, investigators said.
Kenyon Estremo was pronounced dead at Los Robles Regional Medical Center at 11:48 a.m., about an hour after he was found by his mother, Karen, said Ventura County Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Montijo.
Karen Estremo told investigators that she thought that all the doors on the first floor of the home were locked, but found that a sliding glass door was unlocked moments before discovering her son in the spa, Montijo said.
Sheriff’s dispatchers gave Estremo instructions on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and she began lifesaving efforts before firefighters arrived and continued attempts to resuscitate the child.
Montijo said there would be no further investigation of the child’s death, which is considered accidental.
