Girl, 6, Dies After Fall From Horse
A 6-year-old girl has died after being thrown from a horse, police said Saturday.
Alyson Baker-Grant of Van Nuys died Friday evening when she lost control of Montego, a full-grown horse her family had rented from B & B Ranch in West Hills, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Roger Ferguson.
The girl and a small party of other riders were leaving the ranch on a dirt road when Montego suddenly turned and headed back to the stables, Ferguson said. A makeshift seat belt used to hold the girl in the saddle eventually loosened, and the girl was catapulted off the horse and stepped on, he said.
Paramedics tried to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at West Hills Humana Hospital at 6:10 p.m., about an hour after the accident, he said.
