Obituaries : Alican Hendrix; 3-Year-Old Afflicted With Rare Disease
Alican Hendrix, a toddler who spent most of her three years battling a rare and fatal genetic disorder. “She got up from having about an hour’s worth of nap,” said her mother, Wanda Hendrix. “I told her it was OK, she was going home to see Jesus. She took a couple of breaths and she passed away.” The child was diagnosed in early 1991 as having Hurler’s syndrome, which cripples, blinds and deforms its victims before it kills them. In Reno on Sunday after two bone marrow transplant operations failed to stop the progress of the disease.
