Delta and Pilots Resume Talks: Officials of the Air Line Pilots Assn., stung by Delta’s announcement that it will lay off 600 pilots, said in Atlanta that the union is resuming talks with the airline. Union spokesman Steve Johnson said contract negotiations are being put on the back burner in favor of discussing “alternative ways to reduce the ranks of pilots,” such as early retirements and voluntary leave programs.
