COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : OCC’s Bishop Pitches Three-Hitter

Jill Bishop pitched a three-hitter as Orange Coast beat Rancho Santiago, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Friday at Orange Coast.
It was the third shutout for Bishop (8-5). Rancho Santiago had the tying run on third with one out in the seventh, but Bishop got Amy Lewis to pop out to shallow left and Robin Northcraft flew to center to end the game.
OCC’s scored in the first inning when lead-off hitter Tami Dowlin hit a grounder to third baseman Lewis, who threw wildly to first. The ball went all the way down the line and Dowlin scored.
With the victory, OCC (11-6, 5-1 in conference) took over sole possession of second place from Rancho Santiago (11-10, 4-2). Cypress holds a one-game lead over OCC.
In other Orange Empire Conference softball games:
Cypress 14, Irvine Valley 3--Kerry Maloney went five for five with six RBIs to help Cypress (24-8, 6-0) pound home a victory over Irvine Valley (3-13, 0-6).
