NHL : Overtime Win For Oilers, 4-3
It took 56 saves from goalie Bill Ranford and an overtime goal from Craig MacTavish for the Edmonton Oilers to defeat the New York Rangers, 4-3, Wednesday night at New York.
The 59 shots faced by Ranford were a record for an Oiler opponent.
Petr Klima had tied the score, 3-3, with a shot from the slot in the third period. A mistake by Esa Tikkanen--acquired by the Rangers in a trade with the Oilers earlier in the day--set up the tying goal.
Tikkanen’s pass was picked up by Edmonton’s Todd Elik, who set up Klima in the slot.
The win ended the Oilers’ five-game road losing streak.
