OUTLOOK
Why the Griffins have been so woebegone on the baseball diamond is one of the mysteries of recent seasons. After all their success in basketball and football you’d think a fine baseball season would follow. Not so. Not lately. Megill, in his third season at Los Alamitos, has won only 17 of 51 games in that span. Last season’s fifth-place league finish was fairly typical over the past few seasons. And now for the good news: At least one league coach predicts big things for the Griffins. If so, then it will probably happen because of the strong right arm of Rada. “He just throws BBs,” Esperanza Coach Mike Curran said. That’s a ringing endorsement if ever there was one. If Kemp is as reliable behind the plate as he was keeping Esperanza’s monstrous lineman Travis Kirschke out of the Los Alamitos backfield last fall, the Griffins should be set at catcher.
