Broadcast Writers Prepare for Possible Strike: Negotiators for the Writers Guild, which represents more than 275 radio and television writers, and CBS tried to reach a contract settlement Monday before a midnight strike deadline. A strike would affect CBS network writers in New York and Washington and at affiliate stations in Chicago and Los Angeles. The guild, which has negotiated with CBS since Feb. 2, seeks a three-year contract.
