In another girls’ Southern Section quarterfinal:
La Reina 5, Chadwick 1--Michelle Nuesca had three goals and an assist, and Jaime Armstrong added a pair of goals for visiting La Reina in a Division IV match.
La Reina (17-3-1) trailed, 1-0, in the first two minutes but rallied for a 4-1 halftime lead. The Regents will face Brentwood (14-7), a 5-0 winner over Ontario Christian, in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Goalie Jenny LaFemina had 11 saves for La Reina, which outshot Chadwick (9-6-4), 28-9.
Jennifer Valle had two assists, and Jaye Brant and Alicia Moon each added one assist for La Reina.
BOYS
St. Francis 1, Baldwin Park 0 (OT)--Dan Brubaker scored on a header from an assist by Tim Durkin seven minutes into overtime to carry visiting St. Francis (19-2-2) into Tuesday’s Division II semifinals against top-seeded Santa Ana Valley (23-3-2), a 3-2 winner in overtime over Capistrano Valley.
Sophomore goalie Chris Ross had six saves, including one with two seconds remaining in overtime.
On the winning goal, Durkin took a throw-in and flicked a header toward the Baldwin Park goal post. Brubaker stepped in front of goalie Gilbert Vega and managed to head the ball into the net.
Calabasas 4, Orange Lutheran 0--Steve Thomas had two goals and two assists, and Shayne Ferber and Brett Haessig each added a goal for host Calabasas (15-4-2), which recorded its third consecutive shutout in a Division V match.
Burroughs 2, Muir 1 (OT)--Roberto Perez of Burroughs (21-2-2) tied the score midway through the second half on a 25-yard line drive, and Eddie Melgar scored the winning goal one minute into overtime. Perez’s goal was his 22nd of the season.
The Indians are 15-0-1 in their last 16 matches.
