Orange : Council Approves ‘Round Orange Race

The City Council approved a request this week by the Orangewood Children’s Foundation to hold the annual ‘Round Orange Race through the streets of the city.

Tuesday’s decision means that several major streets along the race route will be closed on the morning of April 25 as an expected 3,000 runners participate in the charity activity.

No city funds will be used for the event. Orangewood officials will provide restroom facilities and pay for a post-run cleanup. The foundation will also reimburse the city for any costs the Police Department incurs.

Considered one of the premier running events in Orange County, the ‘Round Orange Race is actually made up of several events, including three separate races and a pancake breakfast.

Proceeds benefit abused and neglected children served by the Orangewood Foundation.

A 10-kilometer race begins at the Toyota of Orange auto dealership at Tustin Street and Katella Avenue. The course extends south on Tustin to Chapman Avenue, where runners will pass City Hall and go around the Plaza circle. The course extends back along Chapman and Tustin, then west on Meats Avenue to the finish line at Peralta Junior High School, where the pancake breakfast will be served.

A five-kilometer race and Kids One-Mile Fun Run are also scheduled.
