CAMARILLO : Health Care District Won’t Ask Court to Condemn Hospital
- Share via
The board of the Camarillo Health Care District has decided against seeking a court’s condemnation of Pleasant Valley Hospital in the wake of the hospital’s merger with an Oxnard medical center.
The health district board will continue its lawsuit against the former president and board of directors of the Camarillo hospital, which merged Friday with St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
But attorneys advised the health district board that it would be a complex, expensive legal process to seek court condemnation of the hospital, board President John Rush said.
The district began investigating condemnation proceedings in the fall after Pleasant Valley Hospital announced plans to merge with St. John’s.
In condemnation proceedings, a court can declare property part of the public domain, which would be the first step toward allowing a public agency--such as a health care district--to purchase it.
