Tax Increase for Retired

In addition to senior discounts at movies, restaurants, theaters and stores, Social Security recipients get a 65th birthday gift of an extra deduction on their income tax returns. For a couple, this provides an additional standard deduction of $1,400. Not because of any change in the ability to pay; strictly for the honor of having reached a particular age. Has anyone ever questioned this giveaway?
