Shoppers Remember ‘Grand Dame’ Fondly
With sadness I read “A Grand Dame’s Farewell.” It brought back a flood of childhood memories. Each year in early December our family visited downtown Robinson’s to see Santa Claus, look at the Christmas window displays and have lunch.
I was about 7 when I first saved my allowance to buy my mother a Christmas present.
I found the perfect present, glass salt and pepper shakers for $7, but didn’t have quite enough money. My father offered to help me.
There were many other shopping trips, but his kindness that day in the china department of Robinson’s will always be remembered.
