Shoppers Remember ‘Grand Dame’ Fondly

I enjoyed Bettijane Levine’s “Grande Dame’s Farewell.”

I shed some tears over the memory of that wonderful Robinson’s store and also Bullock’s downtown.

Although certainly never as grand as Robinson’s, the May Co. Wilshire is also closing.

This store opened in the late 1930s, and thousands of Westside residents at last had a major retail outlet. The Art Deco building is a landmark at Wilshire and Fairfax.
