Holding Line on New Taxes
In 1990, Oxnard Residents for Responsible Government was formed with the sole purpose of fighting Oxnard’s proposed Utility Tax--Measure C. We considered it to be an unjustified and maybe unlawful tax. You will no doubt recall that it was soundly defeated (by a 2-1 margin) by the voters of the city of Oxnard.
Here we go again. Oxnard’s peace officers are asking for a “safety tax.” Oxnard’s city staff is asking for a landscape and lighting assessment (a tax by another name). Have they forgotten Proposition 13 and the public outcry against the Utility Tax?
I think our citizens pay enough for government, and we should look to the City Council to hold the line on taxes and continue to trim the fat.
