Corona del Mar volleyball player Lori Newcomer has committed to Alabama and plans to sign with the Crimson Tide on Feb. 3, said Charlie Brande, her club coach.
Newcomer, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter, chose Alabama over Colorado State, Duke, Virginia and North Carolina.
Newcomer led the Sea Kings to an undefeated season, finishing No. 1 nationally in the USA Today and Volleyball Monthly polls. She was a Times’ all-county, Southern Section and State tournament first-team selection.
She’s also a standout on the Orange County Volleyball club.
