Norwegian speedskater Johann-Olav Koss cut nearly three seconds off his world 5,000-meter record in the European Championships at Heerenveen, the Netherlands, but trailed Falko Zandstra of the Netherlands after two events.
Koss was timed in 6 minutes 38.77 seconds. Zandstra finished second in the 5,000 and won the 500 meters. He leads the overall standings with 77.901 points.
