‘Hey, NBC, About That Late-Night Shift ...’

Dear NBC:
It has come to my attention that you have an opening in your late-night shift (“CBS Chief: We’re Gonna Get Letterman,” Jan. 12). I wish to be included for consideration.
Being one of the numerous unemployed Americans, I know the competition will be tough, but I think I have advantages. Hire me, and I can start immediately. I’m not only ready to do things the boss’s way, but nobody would try to woo me away with the kind of deal that David Letterman got.
Hey, after 25 years on the warehouse floor (proof that I’m a steady worker, when employed), any salary above $8 an hour in a 40-hour-week paycheck is a substantial raise! Even after taxes! Do the show in L.A., and I’ll save you transportation money. That is, unless you consider $42 a month for a regular bus pass too much.
Please keep in mind these advantages: Available immediately; work cheap; I’m all yours because nobody else is willing to hire on a learn-while-you-earn basis; a steady worker who’s used to five paid holidays and one paid vacation per year. I haven’t been spoiled by middle-class values yet.
