Jean Harris Will Leave Prison Within a Week
VALHALLA, N.Y. — Jean Harris will be freed from custody within a week, after spending 12 years behind bars for killing “Scarsdale Diet†Dr. Herman Tarnower.
The Parole Board on Wednesday granted the 69-year-old Harris parole and said she would be released next Wednesday, or earlier if her health permits. The action came three weeks after Gov. Mario M. Cuomo granted her clemency, or the right to seek early parole. She had been serving a sentence of 15 years to life.
Harris is recovering from a blood clot in her leg, a complication that arose after she underwent heart bypass surgery on Dec. 29.
