Altadena : Expansion Decision Upheld
The Town Council voted Tuesday to endorse a Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission decision to deny an Armenian school permission to expand its facilities.
Last September, the Sahag Mesrob Armenian Christian School at 2501 Maiden Lane applied for a county permit to build two classrooms. The addition would enable enrollment to increase from 268 students to 340 elementary and preschool students.
The planning commission rejected the application in October, saying that the site was too small for the expansion and that it would obstruct the view of a historic building belonging to the school.
Sixty-three residents of the neighborhood signed a petition opposing the expansion, and commissioners said the project would cause too much traffic and noise in the neighborhood.
School administrators appealed the denial and the planning commission will hold another hearing at 9 a.m. Feb. 10, at the County Hall of Records.
