Walking Tax
I lead the Nikola Tesla Walkers, a group of walkers that meets on Sunday mornings. I am writing to protest the new Los Angeles County ordinance that imposes a “toe tax” on those who use local county trails and fire roads. It amounts to a $23-a-year annual fee (penalty for not having the permit is a $100 fine). This “law” went into effect Jan. 1. Further, the signs proclaiming this permit “trail use fee” are only in English. Spanish speakers, it appears, will be caught unaware.
