WRESTLING ROUNDUP : Meurer Propels University

Sophomore Stuart Meurer’s pin in the 135-pound weight class helped University, ranked ninth in Orange County, to a 42-30 victory over Saddleback in a Sea View League wrestling match Thursday.

University is 7-3, 2-0 in league.

In Garden Grove League wrestling:

Kennedy 62, Pacifica 10--In the 119-pound class, senior Joe Huffman (17-4) of Kennedy pinned his opponent in 27 seconds. Kennedy is 15-6, 2-1; Pacifica dropped to 3-6, 0-3.

In Orange League wrestling:

Savanna 60, Anaheim 3--Teak Sato and Mark Saba both pinned their opponents in the 135 and 189 divisions for Savanna (20-0, 2-0). Host Anaheim is 14-5, 0-2.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 43, Mater Dei 23--Jason Pascua, who wrestled in the 119-pound class, defeated Lewis Monge, 9-3. Mission Viejo is 14-8, 1-2. Mater Dei is 1-1 in league.

In Sunset League wrestling:

Westminster 43, Fountain Valley 22--Sung Kim and Mike Yim of host Westminster (10-10, 4-0) improved their individual records to 22-3 overall with pins in the 135 and 171 divisions. Fountain Valley is 7-9, 1-3.
