Goodby to Utah: Sanyo Icon has closed a small manufacturing plant in Orem, Utah, and moved its operations to Orange County.
Dave Lawson, spokesman for the computer products company, said the move did not involve a large number of employees. He said the headquarters in Irvine employs about 50 people, including a half dozen who moved from Utah.
Lawson, citing company policy, would not say how many employees were laid off in Utah. He said the move was part of a consolidation in which the company decided to subcontract the Utah plant’s manufacturing to a supplier in Orange County.
Sanyo Icon makes storage products for computer networks and computer systems for multiple users. It is a subsidiary of Sanyo Electric Co., a $12-billion electronics company based in Osaka, Japan.
