Transient at Motel Arrested in Death of His Girlfriend
ANAHEIM — Police arrested a 40-year-old man Friday in connection with the murder of a woman in a motel room.
Tipped off by a motel clerk, police said they found Katherine Coy, 38, a transient, lying in a room at the Kettle Motor Hotel about 1:30 a.m.
Her boyfriend, identified as Richard Grover, also a transient, was hunched over Coy when officers arrived, apparently trying to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Lt. John Cross said.
Paramedics took Coy to Anaheim Memorial Hospital, where she died about half an hour later, police and hospital officials said.
Coy had several bruises on her head and body, homicide Detective Georgia Erickson said.
Erickson said it appeared that Coy’s bruises were caused by repeated punches.
Coy checked into the hotel the day before her death, Cross said. Detectives were trying to determine if any other hotel guests heard or saw any disturbance, Cross said.
Grover is being held in Anaheim City Jail.
