* Robert H. Goldsmith, 63, took early retirement as chairman and chief executive of Chula Vista-based Rohr Inc., a manufacturer of aerospace components, including jet engine enclosures.
James J. Kerley, a director, was chosen as interim chairman and chief executive until a replacement can be found.
At a press conference, Goldsmith said his decision to leave was “my plan” and was not a result of pressure from Rohr’s board. Kerley, who was also at the press conference, concurred but added that Rohr’s board was not pleased with the performance of the company over the last several years.
Goldsmith declined to discuss the financial terms of his retirement.
