Seven inmates at the Mira Loma Jail in Lancaster were injured in a New Year’s Eve brawl, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said Friday.

About 75 inmates were involved in the 15-minute melee, which erupted at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Gabe Ramirez said. Ramirez did not know what sparked the fight between 50 Latino and 25 black inmates.

Five of the inmates were treated at the jail for minor facial cuts, and two others were treated for cuts and a broken nose in the jail ward of County-USC Medical Center in Los Angeles, Ramirez said.
