SIMI VALLEY : Developer Appeals OK for Youth Club

The developer of a Simi Valley office building has appealed the decision of a Ventura County court commissioner who refused to halt construction of a new Boys and Girls Club next to the office complex.

Developer Lloyd Green has objected to the design of the proposed 25,565-square-foot youth club and has argued that the city did not properly study its environmental impact.

Green has alleged that the club, to be built at the southwest corner of Rancho Tapo Community Park on Lemon Drive near Avenida Simi, will detract from the view enjoyed by tenants of his Alamo Street office building.

Commissioner John H. Pattie recently denied Green’s request that the club be ordered to redesign its building. On Monday, Green’s attorney filed an appeal of Pattie’s ruling.

Simi Valley City Atty. John Torrance said the state Court of Appeal would probably not rule for six to nine months. He said the city will probably oppose any bid by Green to stop construction of the club during the appeal process.
