Denver Hepatitis Outbreak Sparks Warning

DENVER — Hoping to curb a hepatitis-A outbreak, health officials Thursday ordered workers in 7,000 establishments to use gloves or utensils when handling food.
The outbreak, traced to employees of a catering business, has made 11 people ill and driven thousands to hospitals, doctors’ offices and public health clinics seeking injections for protection.
Colorado health officials said 15,000 people in the Denver area may have been exposed to the virus through food from LePetit Gourmet Catering and its popular bakery, Sweet Soiree.
Hepatitis-A is a serious liver disease transmitted orally through food or water contaminated by human waste.
