NEWPORT BEACH : Spirit Run to Again Benefit Area Schools
Each year, Harbor View, Lincoln and Andersen elementary schools receive about $20,000 in extra funds to buy supplies and supplement their educational programs--all courtesy of one of the city’s largest organized races.
On Feb. 28, the 10th annual Spirit Run, featuring a 5-K race and a 10-K race, is expected to raise $70,000 in runners’ fees and business sponsorships.
The schools use the funds to supplement their art, science, music, computer and physical education programs. Last year, the three schools shared $62,000 from the event.
More than 6,000 runners are expected to enter this year’s Spirit Run. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at Fashion Island Newport Beach and costs $16 for adults and $14 for children. For details, call (714) 640-2203.
