‘Chain of Lights’

In response to “Berliners Form ‘Chain of Lights’ Against Racism,” Dec. 26:
I am a foreign exchange student from Stuttgart, Germany, staying for one year with an American family.
In Germany before I left, there were never any serious political demonstrations. People were not that much interested in politics. Now after all those terrible neo-Nazi acts in both eastern and western Germany, Germans have started to care more about their political system. They are standing up. They are trying to influence what is happening in politics and be part of a great democratic system, which provides so many rights for everybody. A generation with new political behaviors has been born. The great spirit of the “Chain of Lights” will hopefully be with most of the Germans in their homes at holiday time. I am proud of those who fight racism in my country and anywhere else.
