Farmers See Prices Rise in December: Cattle and hog prices helped to drive up overall receipts for U.S. farmers for December, compared to the previous month, the Agriculture Department said. The USDA’s overall commodity index was up 1.5% in December from the November figure, with lettuce prices posting sharp gains and soybeans up 10 cents a bushel. Wheat and corn prices increased slightly, but farmers earned less in December than in November for oranges, milk, broilers and peanuts.
