The Eagles (3-5) got into trouble quickly by failing to score during the game’s first 5 1/2 minutes. By then, Long Beach was ahead, 8-0.

Later in the first half, the 49ers built their lead to 17 points after a 10-0 run. Long Beach extended its lead to 21 points early in the second half.

But Eastern Washington, led by four points from guard Carren Wilson, cut the margin to 15.

The 49ers put the game away with eight consecutive points, four by Russell.

The Eagles made another run in the closing minutes, scoring the game’s final seven points, but it was far too late.
