OUTLOOK
In Garth Flint’s fourth season with the Sea Kings, he see signs the program is turning the corner. Although volleyball is still the preeminent girls’ sport at Corona del Mar, Flint seems to be making inroads. He had to make cuts at the freshman-sophomore team level for the first time, and he says his players are now dedicated enough to hire outside shooting coaches. “We finally have got enough interest and enough attention that if we have a decent record this year, I think we will solidify it,†Flint said. “The kids now realize that we’re really serious about this.†The five starters returning from last year’s team give the Sea Kings much more experience than usual. Kane was the third-leading rebounder in the county last season with a 14.9 average. Mollie Flint, the coach’s daughter who averaged 20 points and was a second-team All-Division III selection last season, has moved from point to off guard this year. Said Garth Flint: “I told the girls, ‘Everybody’s going to be keying on Mollie, so the rest of you have to concentrate on your shooting.’ â€
