Nimitz School Principal Wins Round of Applause

Re the profile “I’ll Show You” (Dec. 7): Let me see if I understand this. Nimitz Middle School principal Lupe Simpson inherits an educational disaster complete with graffiti-covered walls, low achievement and unmotivated students and teachers.
She works to change matters, but has to deal with teachers who are at best apathetic and at worst opposed to change. So she was caught between children who enjoyed wandering the halls during class time and teachers whose fragile psyches she might injure.
In my company, if you’re not part of the program you’re on the street. These are the same teachers who fault everyone else for not allowing them to do their job, and these are the same teachers who will probably go on strike because they believe they’ve been cheated. Who is cheating whom?
