Federal Workers to Head Home Early for Holiday

WASHINGTON — President Bush is giving federal employees a half day off Thursday on Christmas Eve, ordering government agencies to shut down at midday.
Departments that need to be open for national security “or for other essential public reasons” will not close and some staff will remain on duty, the President’s executive order said. The directive, issued Friday, covers only the federal government.
