SIMI VALLEY : Police Fire Officer Charged With Rape

A Simi Valley police officer charged with raping a woman three years ago after she turned down his request for a date has been fired by the department, officials said Friday.
Paul Anthony Nolan, 31, who joined the department in 1988 and most recently worked as a uniformed traffic officer, was fired effective Dec. 10, said Capt. Jerry Boyce.
Neither Boyce nor city officials would say whether Nolan’s dismissal was related to the charges pending against him. “We’re in the middle of lot of stuff with this young man and we’d only jeopardize ourselves, him and the case by talking about it,” Boyce said.
Nolan met the woman he is charged with raping while investigating a vehicle burglary she had reported. Officials said he repeatedly contacted the woman at her home in subsequent weeks asking for a date, but was rebuffed.
Nolan faces a preliminary hearing on Jan. 28, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Lela M. Henke-Dobroth.
