U.S. Marines in Somalia
I am appalled at the attitudes expressed by some Marines and their families regarding the deployment of troops to aid in the Somalian relief effort. Marines expressing reluctance to go there. Wives complaining that they will be alone during the holidays.
Are Americans, in general, so self-centered and pampered, or is it just the Marines? Hundreds of thousands of Somalians are dying from starvation! What right do we have to complain over our petty inconveniences. Anyone who has a chance to go help in Somalia should feel blessed. Or is it seen as more noble to go to war over oil fields in Kuwait?
Better yet, I’d like to see if Americans will display their ribbons this time.
