SANTA ANA — The coroner’s office Tuesday identified a man hit by a passenger train Saturday night as Dirk Van Den Brink, a 40-year-old transient.
Van Den Brink was struck and killed shortly after 8 p.m. by a southbound Amtrak train between Camino Capistrano and Avenida Pico in San Clemente, according to sheriff’s deputies.
The train’s conductor sounded a horn and Van Den Brink looked up at the train, but did not move away from the tracks, sheriff’s Sgt. Russ Moore said.
Authorities said a toxicology report on Van Den Brink will not be available for about three weeks.
