Fires Damage 2 Homes in Coastal Cities

Two weekend fires caused major damage to homes in Huntington Beach and Newport Beach.
In Huntington Beach, a house at 4642 Prelude Drive, owned by pharmacist Richard Dodge, caught fire shortly before noon Sunday. The house suffered about $70,000 in damage with another $10,000 loss to the contents.
Seventeen firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes. The cause of the blaze was not yet known.
In Newport Beach, a house at 115 37th St. caught fire shortly after 9:30 p.m. Saturday apparently because of combustible material placed on a heater. The damage was estimated at $60,000 to the house and $10,000 to the contents.
The fire was reported by neighbors who tried to combat it with a garden hose. Twelve firefighters extinguished the fire within 20 minutes.
No one was injured in either fire.
