A 17-year-old Escondido girl was killed early Sunday after the car she was traveling in veered off northbound Interstate 15 and flipped over, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter.
A spokesman for the San Diego County coroner’s office said Colleen Lamrock died at the scene. Neither she nor the two other passengers were wearing seat belts when the accident occurred shortly before 5 a.m.
Only the driver, who was not injured and whose name was being withheld because she is a minor, was wearing the restraint. The driver, also a 17-year-old Escondido girl, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Juvenile Hall after her arrest.
A CHP spokeswoman said the car was traveling about 60 m.p.h. just south of the junction with California 163 when it veered off the highway and onto the dirt shoulder.
The other passengers, both from Escondido and ages 16 and 18, suffered minor injuries and were treated and released from local hospitals, authorities said.
