Dayron Harris, a 6-4 center, led all scorers with 28 points, pulled down seven rebounds and slammed home three dunks to lead Washington to a 68-64 overtime upset of Manual Arts in a nonconference game Tuesday.
The Generals led by 16 points after the first quarter, but Manual Arts roared back to a 33-33 tie with 4:18 left in the third period.
The Generals needed two free throws from Harris with 39 seconds left to put the game into overtime. The Toilers then went cold, managing just two free throws from center David Rickenbacker during the first two minutes of the overtime period.
Washington’s rebounding and defense, including a momentum-breaking steal and layup by the General guard Craige Slaughter, brought the overtime score to 62-59 with 1:46 remaining. Stacey Thomas’ two free throws gave the Generals their biggest lead in overtime, 66-59, with 42 seconds left.
Records: Washington 2-0, Manual Arts 3-2.
