COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Higa Scores 29 to Help Irvine Valley Hold Off Fullerton

Gabe Higa scored 29 points to help Irvine Valley to a 93-82 victory over Fullerton in a quarterfinal of the Riverside Holiday Tournament Thursday in Riverside.
Irvine Valley (6-3) took a 47-23 lead at the half and hung on to advance to the semifinals. Irvine Valley will play Riverside at 7 tonight.
Edward Cochran and Tamar Ross each scored 23 for Fullerton (6-6).
In another Riverside tournament game:
Cypress 66, East Los Angeles 60--Robbie Shelton scored 16 points to lead Cypress (9-2) in a quarterfinal. Henry Washington scored 20 points for East L.A. (7-6).
In the Modesto men’s basketball tournament:
Modesto 75, Orange Coast 74--Jeff Porter had 19 points and Matt Manwarren had 17 for Orange Coast (3-8).
In the Hancock women’s basketball tournament:
Golden West 109, Porterville 54--Former Edison High player Erika Miller had 23 points, all in the first half, for Golden West, which is ranked No. 3 in the state. Teammate Melanie Iwamasa, a freshman from Edison, added 16 points, six rebounds and six assists for the Rustlers (10-1), who advance to Friday night’s semifinal against Santa Maria Hancock.
