OUTLOOK
The Warriors reached the quarterfinals of the Division II-AA playoffs last season, losing by three points to Rio Mesa. But they lost four starters and their coach. Bill Shannon resigned after leading the Warriors to one Southern Section and one State title. Halagan inherits a team with little size and less experience. “We’re going to be a small, quick team,†Halagan said. “That means we’re going to have to shoot well to be successful.†The Warriors, who finished second to Tustin last season, will also pressure opponents relentlessly. Ghazinoor and Stone are solid at two of the guard positions. Libby is the other likely starter in the three-guard offense. “I feel good about our backcourt situation,†Halagan said. “Certainly one of our strengths will be our ability to pressure teams into mistakes. My concerns are how we will defend people inside.†Or whether they can defend people inside at all. Movalia is small, but experienced at forward. Florance and Whitfield will have to control the paint and rebound. They will have to be physical, but not too physical. “I feel we’ll be able to rebound,†Halagan said. “But if those three guys get in foul trouble, we’re in trouble. We have a good volume of players. If the inside guys work out, we’ll be all right.†Maybe, but it’s a big order from players who are not all that big.
