Canseco Charged With Battery

The Texas Rangers’ Jose Canseco, who has been involved in several incidents with the law, was arrested early Saturday and charged with battery after a fight at an upscale Chicago nightclub, police said.

Reports indicated that Canseco struck a man for insulting the outfielder’s female companion, but police said they did not know what the fight was about.

Canseco was arrested about 2:35 a.m., booked and released, Sgt. William Lozanski said.

Police Lt. Jerry Vaughn said Canseco was charged with battery and released on a $1,000 bond. Canseco is scheduled to appear in Misdemeanor Court on Jan. 27.
