Real estate agent Toni Young was sworn in as the newest member of the Port Hueneme City Council on Wednesday, marking the first time in 33 years that a woman has joined the city’s policy-making body.
Longtime Councilman Orvene S. Carpenter also took the oath of office. Carpenter is entering a seventh four-year term on the council.
Young has said she intends to focus her efforts on blocking any new taxes that council members might suggest in the coming year to bolster flagging city revenues. She also has pledged to hold monthly office hours to hear the concerns of residents.
