How do you replace players such as Jocques Wright and Jon Grobler? It isn’t easy, but Dignan will try. Wright was second in the county in scoring last season with a 27.2 average, and Grobler averaged 21.1 points. But both have graduated, and the Pioneers, who finished third in the Academy League last season, must adjust to life without the two standouts. “It’s basically a rebuilding job,” Dignan said. “I’ve got a team that I think will be equal in talent among all the starters, but nobody of the caliber of Jocques or Jon. It’s a well-rounded team.” This year’s team, however, has something it lacked a year ago--size. Al-Hamad and Trebels are the two tallest players in the league, and Dignan said both have good athletic ability. Sesma, the only returning starter, is the playmaker. “He’s got a lot of moves,” Dignan said. “He enjoys handing out the assists. He makes the team play better.” Without Wright and Grobler taking care of the scoring, Dignan will have to get all of the Pioneers more involved in the offense this season. “As time goes on, I’m thinking that these guys will be able to fit into my motion offense pretty well,” Dignan said. Defensively, Dignan said the team will play mostly zone, but adjust according to the competition.
